Canal Digital is to add the music streaming service WiMP for its 700,000 subscribers in Norway. An entry-level subscription will be provided free of charge, allowing connection via both Mac and PC, and access to the entire music library. Subscribers will then be able to upgrade to up to three accounts at a discounted rate, which will also include mobile access.
“This exciting partnership combines the immediate-scale distribution and marketing with a great music experience in the heart of the digital living room at home with people,” said Jacob Key, vice president, commercial strategy & business development, Warner Music Nordic. “It creates a powerful opportunity for our local and international artists to reach out to a huge new audience, especially through Canal Digital’s smart offer for family subscribers.”
The WiMP proposition includes a strong editorial profile, through which local editorial staff choose and recommend songs, albums, and artists, putting them into relevant playlists.
The company is operated by Aspiro and Platekompaniet in co-operation with Canal Digital owners Telenor. The advertising free service is available in different versions for PC, Mac, iPhone, Android and the Logitech Squeezebox.
