Canal+ ended 2010 with a 169,000 increase in subscriber numbers across the board. The premium channel that broadcasts to France, its overseas dependences and territories, and Africa closed 2010 with 5.4 million subscribers. The increase was helped by a historically low churn rate of 11.6%.
Key to the improved churn rate was subscriber satisfaction within programme package Les Chaines Canal+, which stood at 88%. Consolidated revenues for 2010 rose to €1,787 million from €1,775 million in 2009, on the back of solid audience figures and increased advertising revenues.
Savings were made from the completion of analogue switch off on the French terrestrial network on November 24, 2010, the first network to do so. All of the Canal+ premium channels have been simulcast in HD since October 12.
Canal+ SA, the 48%-owned subsidiary of Canal+ France, itself an 80%-owned subsidiary of Canal+ Group reported a consolidated net income of €40 million, a decrease of 0.8% on 2009 largely attributable to interest charges.
