The Association for Digital Communication (ADC), together with a number of important companies and personalities in the Romanian telecom and TV sectors, have issued an open letter urging the authorities to resuscitate the country’s digital switchover process.
In the letter, they ask the authorities to consider the following immediate actions:
Review and approve a new Strategy for the Transition to Digital Television, setting 2013 as the ASO date, in line with EC recommendations, by the end of this quarter.
Ensure hat the digital multiplexes are awarded via a competitive and transparent process which gives equal opportunities to industry players while ensuring that citizens’ right to information is respected.
To make sure the new strategy envisages a technology-neutral and platform-neutral process, in line with EC recommendations.
To set the framework of the information campaign which must accompany the transition to digital television.
To start the public debate regarding the use of the digital dividend.
The involvement of the industry, through the ADC and other relevant organisations, in the process of elaborating the laws and regulations related to the transition to digital television.
Romania took the unusual step last year of freezing the transition to digital broadcasting just when a tender for what would have been the country’s first two multiplexes was under way.
