Ukrainian cable operators may soon be required to distribute all channels that are available in the areas they service.
According to AKTR and Ukrainskje Novosti, a draft law containing such a requirement has been voted through its first reading in the Ukrainian parliament (Verkhovna Rada).
Under the law, cable operators would have to ensure maximum accessibility of channels that have terrestrial or satellite broadcasting licences issued by the National Council on Television and Radio Broadcasting.
Ukraine ended 2010 with 3,456,000 cable TV subscribers, or 0.2% more than a year earlier.
