Netflix arrives on the Boxee Box

February 15, 2011 14.33 Europe/London By Robert Briel

Boxee’s Avner Ronen has announced that TV shows and movies streaming instantly from Netflix are now available on the Boxee Box by D-Link in the US and Canada.

Ronen: “Netflix support was the most common request we had on our blog comments, forum posts, tweets, etc. We heard you loud and clear. We were bummed that we could not make it happen earlier, but are very excited to have it out today.”

In order to watch movies streaming Netflix on the Boxee Box, viewers need to update the software on the Box.

Netflix on the Box will simultaneously launch in Canada. Netflix on the Box is different from the version on the PC/Mac versions of Boxee. It has the brand new Netflix UI which they constantly update, test and improve. Additionally there’s more discovery options featuring unique Netflix recommendations and many of the movies are available in HD.

Netflix has been available on Boxee on PC and Mac, this is the first time for the service on the Boxee Box. Netflix has also been available on a couple of other connected TV boxes, including Apple TV, Roku, and the Logitech Revue.
