The Czech cable operator RIO Media has announced that its FTTH network is the largest in the country and now reaches 50,000 homes.
Construction of the network, which measures over 1,000km in length, began in 2008 and has to date cost over CZK750 million (€31.2 million).
It allows Rio Media to offer internet download speeds 10 times faster than ADSL and upload speeds up to 100 times faster.
Rio Media was formed in 2008, bringing together the operators Antena 2H+B, CL-Net, F.C.A and Mattes AD, as well as the metropolitan network in the city of Olomouc.
Argus Capital Partners-backed RIO Media is one of the largest operators in the Czech Republic, claiming around 115,000 subscribers in mostly central and northern Bohemia and Moravia.
