Serbia will complete the transition to digital broadcasting on April 4, 2012, according to Jasna Matic, the country’s minister of telecommunication and information society.
Quoted by B92, she added digital TV signals would be broadcast by Emisiona tehnika i veze, which has been separated from the public broadcaster RTS.
Matic also said that the government has set aside funds for 300,000 digital receivers that would be allocated to rural parts of the country.
Separately, Matic has insisted that the government has no favourites in the upcoming privatisation of Telekom Srbija. There has recently been speculation that Russia’s Vimpelcom is in pole position to buy a 51% stake in the telco.
Bids for the stake are invited up to March 31.
