SeeSaw, the Arqiva-backed over-the-top TV portal, has begun making its content available through Boxee.
Rather than create a dedicated TV app the content appears through Boxee’s listing of available TV shows, which also include content from Channel 4 and Channel 5. On its website SeeSaw suggests users make a search for an item they know to be available on the service. Users then see the familiar SeeSaw logo along with pre-roll advertising.
At present the content is restricted to SeeSaw’s selection of ad-funded content, rather than its pay-per-view and subscription service SeeSaw Non Stop.
There remain a few glitches to the service that SeeSaw is promising to iron out by March. For example when Broadband TV News tried the service the initial info bar that would normally disappear from the PC version remained present throughout the video presentation.
This is Boxee’s first foray away from the computer and marks a different strategy from other providers that have initially looked to games consoles and set-top boxes, though this is also an area of interest.
