A HD version of Canal+ will make its debut in Poland before the end of March, according to Maciej Kiryllo, director of marketing and a member of the board at Canal+ Cyfrowy.
In a wide-ranging interview with Wirtualne Media, he also revealed that the DTH platform Cyfra+ had seen no subscriber growth in 2010 – it ended the year, as 2009, with 1.55 million – though a greater number of them were receiving more expensive services.
Over 800,000 were watching premium channels, around 25% HD services and one in three new customers opted for Multiroom.
Kiryllo added that Canal+ Cyfrowy has no plans to launch a 3D channel in Poland this year, though it will show more sports events and movies in the format. Nor will it launch any new thematic services, preferring instead to develop existing ones.
There is growing feeling in Poland that its DTH market, which is currently served by five platforms, may soon enter a period of consolidation.
Cyfrowy Polsat, the market leader, has conceded it might be interested in buying a competing platform should it come up for sale.
