The world’s third largest professional cable association in terms of the number of subscribers it represents has officially been launched at CSTB in Moscow.
According to AKTR and CNews, the Euroasian Association of Cable Television (EAKT) encompasses 12 countries – Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Russia, Poland, Turkey, Ukraine and Estonia – with a combined total of over 40 million cable subscribers.
However, interest in joining it has already been expressed by societies in several other countries including China and South Korea.
Yuri Pripachkin has been elected the president of the EAKT, while Mikhail Silin will be its executive director.
One of its first meetings will be to discuss how the transition to digital broadcasting can be speeded up in Poland.
