UPC Nederland has added the English service from Al Jazeera to its digital TV bouquet following numerous requests from subscribers. However, a spokesperson for the cabler said carriage is only temporary.
Last year, UPC removed the English language channel from its digital TV offer as research showed it was one of the least watched channel on the network.
However, recent events in Tunisia and Egypt sparked a new interest in the channel and UPC’s web team monitored an enormous increase in interest in the channel on Twitter and Facebook. Acting swiftly, the cable operator has started carrying the channel as from January 31, “for a limited time only”, according to a spokesperson for UPC Nederland.
