Radio Times is to take over the branding of Teletext Extra, the enhanced Freeview EPG operated by InView Technology. It is live on around 7.1m boxes in 3.8m Freeview homes in the UK.
The branding of Radio Times Extra follows an acknowledgement from BBC Worldwide that the venerable listings title needed to do more in the field of electronic publishing.
The guide offers 14-day programme listings, along with detailed programme information and synopses. Viewers can choose whether to sort the guide by channel or by time and set reminders for their favourite shows.
Advertisers can purchase banner ads at the top and bottom of the screen, while broadcasters can purchase highlighted listings and a ‘guest channel’ feature that pushes listings further up the guide.
Teletext Extra was launched in 2007; Teletext itself closed its editorial services in December 2009 and was subsequently fined by the regulator Ofcom for their early closure.
