Dutch incumbent telecom operator KPN has reported a strong increase in the number of IPTV customers, adding 57,000 homes to reach a total of 302,000 by December 31, 2010. The number of subscribers to the company’s Digitenne DTT platform dropped slightly to 895,000.
During the presentation of the Q4 2010 figures, KPN said that it now has a total of 1,197,000 TV customers, a growth of 22% during the past year. The operator claims a 15% share of the total Dutch TV market. This represents a doubling of the number of customers during the past three years; at the end of 2007 there were 497,000 TV homes, mostly Digitenne and a negligible number of IPTV connections.
The number of Digitenne subscribers has gone down by 4,000 homes, but this is made good by the increase in IPTV customers to its KPN Interactieve TV service. KPN is now heavily promoting the IPTV platform with subscription prices starting at €9.95 for the basic tier. Digitenne sells for €8.50 monthly.
