Former Hansenet CEO Lutz Schüler is to become the new managing director of Unitymedia. Schüler (42), will take over at the Cologne-based cablenet on January 1, on the retirement of Gene Musselman who had been CEO since the company’s acquisition by Liberty Global early this year. He will report to Diederik Karsten, managing director, European broadband operations.
Schüler’s spell at Hansenet came as part of 12 years at Telefónica O2, during which time he served in a number of senior management roles. Before joining Telefónica O2 in 1998, Lutz worked with VIAG Interkom GmbH and T-Mobil.
Karsten said he thought Schüler would make a valuable contribution to Unitymedia’s management team. “Lutz has a great track record in the German telecom market, with many years of strategic and operational experience and a proven track record in generating growth with a wide range of products”.
Musselman is retiring from Liberty Global after almost 20 years and has a total of 35 years in the cable business. He will continue as a special advisor to Liberty Global on a number of issues.
