Aster rings in the changes

December 21, 2010 08.11 Europe/London By Chris Dziadul

The Polish cable operator Aster has announced price rises that will come into effect on January 1. It has also said its offer will be boosted by the addition of a number of new channels from December 31.

The price rises, which have been necessitated by a one percentage point increase in VAT (from 7% to 8% and 22% to 23%, depending on the product), will apply to gross prices, with net ones remaining unchanged.

The new channels are National Geographic, Nat Geo Wild, Planete and TLC, which will replace TV5 Monde, Kuchnia TV and Discovery World in the Basic package, with the latter remaining in the digital BasicPLUS offer.

Nat Geo Wild and Disney XD have also been added to BasicPLUS.

Aster is the fourth largest cable operator in Poland. Earlier this month it was announced that it is being acquired by Liberty Global, the owner of UPC Polska, in a deal worth €217.6 million.
