Latvia’s Supreme Court has ruled in favour of the Society of Copyright and Communication Consulting Agency/Latvian Authors Association (AKKA/LAA) in a dispute with TV3.
As a result, reports DB, the latter will have to pay LVL201,300 (€282,719) for the use of works over the period January 1, 2002 to December 31, 2008.
However, the court also partially granted TV3’s counterclaim, ruling that a contract for musical works is valid until December 31, 2012.
In this instance, TV3 will have to pay compensation equivalent to 1.6% of its revenues. TV3 will also have to pay legal costs of LVL8,420.
