The Italian free-to-air platform Tivùsat has enabled more than 700,000 smart-cards. As of November 30, the Eutelsat-delivered satcaster had recorded 705,936 cards, representing a rate of over 2,000 per day. In a statement the Mediaset-RAI-Telecom Italia operation said the figures meant it had exceeded its projections for 2010. In August, Tivùsat had reported enablements for 475,000 cards.
Italian digital switchover is now well underway with 20 million Italians in Lombardy, Emilia Romagna, Veneto and Friuli Venezia Giulia scheduled to lose their analogue signal between November 26 and December 15.
The last quarter also saw a return to growth for the Sky Italia premium offering, which declared 4.8 million subscribers as of September 30, 2010.
