Smart launches CI Plus module for KDG

December 3, 2010 09.32 Europe/London By Robert Briel

Smart has launched their CI Plus module, which has been certified for use with Kabel Deutschland cable tuners. The CAMs are available for a retail price of €79.90.

Kabel Deutschland is the first German cable operator to introduce CI Plus for the certified cable tuners that are available in retail. Customers have to buy the receiver and in addition the CI Plus module.

Earlier Deutschland announced it had reached an agreement with cable operator Kabel Deutschland over the use of CI Plus modules. Cable customers will be able to receive both Kabel Deutschland and Sky pay-TV packages using a single tuner with CI Plus module.

Meanwhile, German newspapers and newsletters continue to paint a dark picture of the introduction of CI Plus across various platforms, pointing at the fact that broadcasters have more control over what viewers can do with their content.
