The Polish alternative telco Netia plans to start an IPTV trial before the end of this year and launch a service as soon as possible.
The news was given by Miroslaw Godlewski, the company’s president, in a wide-ranging interview with Gazeta Prawna.
He added that he expects Netia to play a key role in upcoming consolidation in the Polish alternative telco ector. It has already put in a bid of PLN700 million (€171.4 million) for Exatel, which it could raise by a further PLN100 million, and may also bid for Telefonia Dialog.
Godlewski also said that he agreed with Zygmunt Solorz-Zak about the internet eventually becoming the main method of distributing content.
However, this would reduce the value of the media and telecom sectors, with customers, for instance, being less willing to subscribe to cable TV services.
