Diva signs Technisat hybrid TV deal

November 24, 2010 10.38 Europe/London By Robert Briel

Swiss based supplier of VOD and Connected TV content, Diva AG, has completed a deal with TechniSat to include its Viewster VoD widget on the copmpany’s hybrid set top boxes in 10 markets. The service will go live via the Technisat boxes in January 2011.

With Technisat enjoying set top box sales in excess of one million units per year, the deal expands Diva’s ‘over the top’ delivery of its VOD movie and TV programme catalogue alongside its increasingly dominant presence via inclusion on major brand TV sets.

“Of course viewers now want to decide for themselves exactly when they watch the programmes they wish to see”, said Elmar Möller, Technisat’s IPTV content manager. “We are keen to cater for this exciting trend, and have decided to include applications on our boxes which offer users quality programming on this basis. Customers want access to premium movies at any time, and we feel confident that our cooperation with Diva AG offers them real added value.”

Viewster will give users of Technisat boxes access to an extensive catalogue of movies and TV series, which they will be able to buy individually, in packages, or on subscription basis. They will also benefit from free to view movies paid carrying advertising content.

Diva refreshes some 20% of its catalogue each year, with each title being offered for at least three months. In addition, Viewster provides access to a variety of Turkish, Russian and Arabic movies and drama series.

Diva’s customers are over-the-top platforms, IPTV operators and device manufacturers in Asia, Europe, Middle East and the USA. Diva’s direct to consumer service, Viewster, launched in beta during November 2010, and will formally go live with all features in Q1 2011.
