The transition to digital broadcasting is gathering pace in Russia, with over 20 million people in 16 of the country’s regions being able to receive DTT services by the end of the year.
The figures were provided by President Dmitry Medvedev in a meeting on the development of digital TV with heads of relevant ministries and agencies and quoted by AKTR and Praim Tass Bit.
He added that the aim is eventually offer the same number of channels – over 20 – to people in the remotest parts of Russia as those available in Moscow.
Russia has begun to roll out its first DTT multiplex and will have three up and running by the time it completes ASO in 2015.
