AETN appoints Ian Jones

A&E Television Networks has announced the appointment of Ian Jones as MD, Content Distribution & Commercial Development for AETN International. Based in New York, Jones will be responsible for managing the growth of AETN’s content and digital distribution activities outside the US.

Jones’ role will see him manage the international distribution of AETN’s 8,000-hour library which sees over 800 hours of new programming added annually. Working in tandem with AETN International managing directors in London and Singapore, he will oversee a sales staff based in the UK, Singapore, and New York, as well as sales representatives in Sydney, Montreal, and Tokyo. Jones will assume this role in December and will report to Sean Cohan, Sr. VP, International for AETN.

“Over the past three years, AETN International has significantly grown its content distribution activities across all platforms. We recently expanded our content offering to include firsts like TV movies, competitive reality and 3D. We recognized the need to add a senior global sales executive to our team and with his extensive sales and leadership background, Ian fits the bill perfectly. We look forward to working with him on developing and executing our content and commercial strategy,” said Cohan.

“Over the past few years, I have watched AETN’s incredible growth both in the US and abroad, and I am very excited to be joining the company at a critical stage in its international expansion,” said Jones. “I look forward to working with Sean and the entire team as we further develop the international content distribution business and solidify AETN’s leadership position within the industry.”

Jones previously served as group MD of Target Entertainment group, one of the largest rights management companies in the UK. Prior to Target, Jones was president of National Geographic Television International. Jones also served as deputy MD and general manager at Granada International ad also held positions with ITEL, STE and S4C International and Co-productions.
