The Turkish DTH platform D-Smart ended the third quarter with 1,227,000 subscribers, or 152,000 more than 12 months earlier. Of these, 405,000, or around 33% of total active users, opted for pay-TV services.
D-Smart is operated by the Dogan Yahin Holding (DYH), whose other broadcast interests include Kanal D, the market leader in prime time, and Star TV. It offers subscribers three main packages – Smart, Family and Maxi – for TRY69 (€34.9), TRY199 and TRY 299 a year respectively and is the market leader in HD with 11 channels, the majority of which are exclusive.
The platform also offers such exclusive sports content as the Champions League and UEFA League.
DYH notes that the TV ad market continues to grow strongly in Turkey. It amounted to TRY361 million and TRY1,373 million in Q3 and the first nine months of this year, year-on-year increases id 28% and 45% respectively.
TV also remains the dominant advertising medium in Turkey, accounting for 51% of total spend in the first nine months of 2010.
