The BBC iPlayer has set a new monthly usage record. In October the service received 139 million requests for TV and radio programmes, a month-on-month increase of 22%, and an increase of 43% on the year. TV content requests also reached a new high watermark of 84.1 million.
Catch-up TV was boosted by autumn TV schedules that included the return of The Apprentice and Waterloo Road as well as new drama series Single Father and Lip Service.
Live TV viewing also increased and accounted for 11% of all TV programme requests.
Of the 139 million requests, 99 million were online, 24 million to Virgin Media, 7 million mobile devices and 6 million the Sony PlayStation 3.
