Kabel Deutschland KDG, Germany’s largest cable operator, and PrimaCom have announced the sale of approximately 70,000 cable households from Level 4 operator PrimaCom to KDG for an undisclosed amount.
The sale comprises two cable nets, one in the city of Osnabrück (approximately 40,000 subscribers) in Lower Saxony and one in the area of Mainz (approximately 30,000 subscribers) in Rhineland-Palatinate.
Kabel Deutschland already provides video signals to these households through a wholesale contract with PrimaCom. The acquisition will allow Kabel Deutschland to directly access the households. Thus, after closing, their premium TV and broadband internet and telephony services can be offered.
PrimaCom said in a statement these two cable nets are the last remaining in areas isolated from the main networks. The cable operator will now focus on its nets in the eastern part of Germany, where it serves around 1 million homes with triple play services including fast internet access of up to 120 Mbps.
The acquisition will be submitted for approval of the Federal Cartel Office. Closing is anticipated this month.
