Spanish public broadcaster TVE has announced it will start tests to broadcast in widescreen on its Eutelsat Hot Bird 8 broadcasts of the free-to-air channels TVE International and 24 Horas from November 15.
The 16:9 widescreen format will use AFD, Active Format Description, allowing the proper adjustment of the display device to the characteristics of the signal. The broadcaster also has said it will introduce a teletext service on the two channels as well as subtitling using the DVB format.
From November 15, 2010, TVE will test the widescreen format with a number of programmes. Full implementation of the 16:9 format will not happen before February 1, 2011.
