The Polish public broadcaster TVP has provided further details of its digital plans ahead of the launch of the country’s third DTT multiplex, which will make its debut tomorrow (October 27).
Speaking to the local press, the broadcaster said that it would launch three new thematic channels. The first of these – TVP Seriale – will make its debut on December 6 and offer viewers a 70/30 mix of locally produced and foreign series. It is expected to have an audience share of 0.2% after one year and break even by 2012/13.
The second of the new thematic channels will focus on documentaries, but TVP provided no details on the third channel. The third multiplex, which has been allocated solely to TVP, will initially distribute five of its channels – TVP1, TVP2, TVP Info, TVP Kultura and TVP Historia – and reach a potential 7 million people.
TVP also has plans to offer its three main channels – TVP1, TVP2 and TVP Info – in HD on the first multiplex and to offer sports programming in the format by 2012, when Poland co-hosts Euro 2012 and the Olympic Games take place in London.
