Although the transition to digital broadcasting in Hungary has fallen behind schedule, the country should still meet its ASO target date of December 31, 2011.
The assessment was given by Jean-Francois Fenech, the CEO of Antenna Hungária, and quoted by BBJ and MTI-Econews.
Hungary has around 3.8 million TV homes, of which 800,000 watch only terrestrial services. Of the latter, some 125,000 are already receiving the DTT service MinDigTV operated by Antenna Hungária.
Fenech called on decisions on subsidies for reception equipment and whether the analogue services will be switched off at once or on a region-by-region basis to be made as soon as possible.
He added that the transmission company has already spent over half of the HUF25 billion (€90.32 million) expected on the digitisation process.
