Both Sony and Nintendo have announced that owners of the PlayStation3 and Wii respectively, will now access to streaming movies and TV shows on their device without the need of a physical disc.
Starting this week, the Netflix service is available on the two game consoles, which will act as an over-the-top set-top box. Sony said a number of titles will become available in 1080p HD and Dolby 5.1 surround sound.
Nintendo Wii and Sony PlayStation 3 users will be able to stream titles to the Wii after downloading a new Netflix application. The Netflix service has already been available on the XBox 360 for some time.
There is a $8.99 (€6.50) monthly subscription fee for the standard membership. Netflix’s online streaming service is also available on computers, consumer electronics and mobile devices including Apple’s iPad.
