PIKE CONFERENCE – SOPOT. There are likely to be up to 152 cable HD channels in Europe by the end of this year, according to Manuel Kohnstamm, the president of Cable Europe.
Speaking at the opening of the 37th International Conference and Exhibition organised by the Polish Chamber of Electronic Communication (PIKE), he added that the next phase in cable, which is set to grow by 6% in Europe and 12% in Central Europe this year, will be “relentless technical innovation at all levels.”
Kohnstamm also said that, “Poland’s broadband technology market has huge potential. Cable is the real driver in this revolution.”
The conference was opened by Lech Walesa, the joint founder and first head of the Solidarity movement and also a former president of Poland, who made an impassioned plea for responsibility in the media.
