The Walt Disney Company has announced that Disney XD is set to launch HD on Sky this coming Monday, October 18. The HD simulcast of Disney XD, which will be available on the Sky platform throughout the UK and Republic of Ireland, means that Sky now offers more than 50 HD channels to subscribers.
Disney XD HD is the second Dinsey channel in HD, after the launch of Disney Cinemagic HD, which began broadcasting on Sky on December 3, 2008. Disney XD in SD was launched in August 2009, when it replaced the Jetix brand.
Boel Ferguson, VP and general manager, Disney Channels UK and Ireland, said in a statement: “The arrival of Disney XD in HD is another great example of The Walt Disney Company’s commitment to bringing kids and families the best possible entertainment experiences through the most compelling mediums.”
Rob Webster, director, commercial group, BSkyB added: “We’re delighted to add Disney XD HD to our unrivalled HD offering which now reaches more than three million HD subscribers. We are committed to continue to work with high-quality content partners to ensure we carry on delivering the very best HD service on the market.”
