The transition to digital broadcasting has run into difficulties in Ukraine.
Quoting figures produced by GfK Ukraine, AKTR and Kommersant say that as if the end of H1 only 0.04% of all households in Ukraine received DTT services. Furthermore, just under one in five (19.8%) of all homes watched digital TV services, with the majority (82.4%) being via satellite, followed by cable (17.1%). MMDS accounted for 0.4% and DTT 0.2% of digital households.
This comes alongside a report by AKTR and Novosti Ukraine, quoting an international forum on digital broadcasting in Ukraine, about the “catastrophic under-funding” of the digitisation process and absence of a coherent strategy for its implementation.
Ukraine, like Russia and most of the CIS countries, is expected to complete the transition to digital broadcasting by 2015.
