Sky Deutschland’s iPad app goes live in HD

September 20, 2010 07.04 Europe/London By Robert Briel

Sky Deutschland will launch a sports app for the iPad enabling subscribers to watch Sky Sport HD 1 and Sky Sport HD 2 via the iPad everywhere at the end of October.

The content of the app includes live sport, sport news, video clips and a datacenter with results of sporting events around the world and statistics. The app can be used for free by all Sky Sport subscribers until the end of the year and non-Sky subscribers can use the datacenter and sport news functions.

Brian Sullivan, CEO, Sky Germany, said in a statement: “We launched the Sky Sports App in June in time for the start of the World Cup as a real innovation. Now we have another first, with the addition of our Sky Sports HD channels, our customers can enjoy the fantastic visual experience of Sky HD outside of their own four walls to enjoy on their iPad.”

With the new app subscribers can see all sports channels from Sky Deutschland, Sky Sport 1, Sky Sport 2, Sky Fußball Bundesliga, Sky Sport HD 1, Sky Sport HD 2 and Sky Sport Austria. No pricing has been announced when the service turns into a paid app in the new year.

In the UK, Sky has also launched a similar live sports service for the iPad last June.
