Canal+ adds three HD channels

September 19, 2010 11.59 Europe/London By Robert Briel

Canal+ will add the HD channels Canal+ Cinema HD, Canal+ Family HD and Canal+ Decale HD to its premium offer on October 12. Until now, only the main Canal+ and Canal+ Sport have been available in HD.

The pay-TV operator launched Canal+ Sport HD last June for its subscribers on satellite and IPTV. The HD versions of the three thematic Canal+ stations will first be rolled out on DTH satellite and progressively on IPTV as part of the CanalSat offer. At the same time, CanalSat is also adding a new channel to its line-up, TV8 Mont Blanc (in SD) from October 12.

CanalSat’s HD bouquet also includes HD versions of the main terrestrial channels TF1 HD, France 2 HD, Arte HD and M6 HD, as well as the thematic channels CineCinema Premiere HD, Disney Cinemagic HD, Eurosport HD, 13eme Rue HD, SyFy Universal HD, Discovery HD, Ushaia HD, National Geographic HD, MTV HD and Brava HDTV.

CanalSat has also announced that two channels it carries will change their names; Odyssee will become Stylia and Virgin 17 will turn into Direct Star.

The platform also announced the availability of its channels on the Apple iPad following an earlier introduction of the channels on the iPhone and iPod Touch. All the premium Canal+ channels have become available on the tablet, both for wi-fi and for 3G connections. This includes the Canal+ A La Demand VOD service.

In addition, CanalSat has also made available about 30 thematic channels on the iPad. They include Infosport, L’Equipe TV, InfoSport, MTV, MCM Top. June, Canal J and Teletoons.
