Dutch cable companies are profiting from the DOCSIS 3.0 access technology and are winning broadband customers from DSL. Insiders believe cable internet access will surpass DSL in 2012.
According to Telecompaper, the Dutch broadband market grew by only 0.2% to 6.147 million in Q2, adding only around 15,000 net connections, the smallest number since data measurements began at the beginning of 2005. DSL connections meanwhile fell by 1.7%, or 60,600, to 3.456 million as of the middle of this year.
Cable, on the other hand, rose by 1.9%, or 44,600, to 2,450,000 connections, and the total number of FTTH customers with a subscriptions stood at 220,000. of which 26,000 were served by KPN.
KPN also had 16,000 VDSL customers.
