IBC 2010 – AMSTERDAM. Netgem has launched a new range of internet/TV adaptors, designed to provide a seamless blend of broadcast and optimized web content within a combined TV experience.
The device, which comes pre-loaded with specially created TV versions of the ‘must-have’ web applications, YouTube, Facebook and Flickr. The UI can also be personalised by the operator or service provider and added-value services, such as VOD, catch-up TV or WebTV channels can be integrated to enrich their offering.
Users can also choose to connect a detachable hard disk to the device, to allow them to permanently store video content recorded from the tuner.
“Our vision is to enrich the TV permanently through the power of the internet, not put the internet on the TV,” Christophe Aulnette, managing director, Netgem told Broadband TV News.
Netgem is using Microsoft’s Play Ready as part of its adaptive streaming solution to smooth the delivery of online content. “There will be several steaming solutions, Microsoft is probably the leader, but there are one or two others that we will offer as they become available,” said Aulnette.
