Romtelecom’s cable subsidiary NextGen will launch digital TV services in 15 Romanian cities this month.
According to ZF, viewers will be charged RON27 (€6.30) a month, including VAT, for a package of 85 channels. They will be provide with receivers free of charge and offered four months of free subscriptions over a period of 26 months.
With the introduction of its digital TV offer, NextGen will be going head-to-head with both RCS/RDS and UPC, both of which charge similar monthly fees for their services. However, NextGen will be handicapped by the fact that it does not as yet include HD channels in its offer.
NextGen is a triple play company and currently has around 160,000 subscribers.
Romtelecom also has DTH and IPTV operations, both of which use the Dolce brand name. The former is the second most successful such service in Romania, with a subscriber figure believed to be approaching one million.
