The troubled Ukrainian DTH platform Poverkhnost Plus is looking into the possibility of changing satellites.
Quoting the platform’s president and owner Viktor Samoljenko, Satkurier reports that Poverkhnost Plus is engaged in talks with Ukrkosmos, which will launch a Ukrainian satellite in 2012. The latter will form part of a terrestrial and satellite infrastructure being developed by Ukrkosmos and Canada’s MacDonald, Dettwiler and Associates Ltd, the two parties having signed a contract late last year worth $254 million (€197.1 million).
Samoljenko also confirmed that Poverkhnost Plus, which has reported debts of $20 million, is still looking for new investors. Istil Group sold its 55% stake in the platform to Samoljenko in July this year.
Poverkhnost Plus has until now employed three transponders on Eutelsat W4 at 36 degrees East.
