German public broadcaster ZDF has made a remarkable move by announcing the launch of an analogue teletext service on its digital youth-skewed channel ZDFneo on September 1.
“With its simple operation and its widespread usage, the teletext service on ZDF for over 30 years has established itself as a popular and frequently-used medium that stands out with its rich content and its high relevance to its users,” according to the broadcaster. And indeed, German viewers are still using teletext service in large numbers, despite new developments such as HbbTV and “super teletext”.
ZDF launched its ZDFneo channel nine months ago. The broadcaster promises its viewers a wide range of teletext pages. In addition to news, sports, weather reports and stock market data from the existing ZDFtext, ZDFneo teletext will include the offer of a nine-day programme schedule of ZDFneo with previews and programme-related information.
ZDFneo is available on DTH satellite, nationwide on DTT (between 9pm and 6am), as well as on cable and IPTV platforms.
