The German TV producer DCTP plans to launch its own TV channel on January, 1, 2011. The 24 hour channel DCTP-TV will offer programming on topics of culture, society, history and science, counsel Paul Leo Giani told the German trade publication Medienbote.
The new broadcaster will also offer an extensive on-demand portal, where viewers will be able to watch more programming, “We are responding to the changing usage by the audience, who are looking for an active and flexible way to access content,” Giani said.
At the moment, DCP is very successful with a 4 hour branded programming block broadcast Saturday evenings prime time on Vox. Programming on the new channel will be structured in the same way. The name DCTP stands for Development Company for Television Programme.
DCTP-TV will broadcast its own productions as well as from partners such as Spiegel TV,Süddeutsche Zeitung TV, NZZ TV and BBC Worldwide. The channel will be available free to air, with advertising and sponsorship being the main sources of income.
