The leading Ukrainian cable operator Volia has announced its strategy for the introduction of HD channels.
Having already provided subscribers with HD content in its on demand service, it will now launch a promo channel in the format and then allow them to view Nat Geo Wild HD, for no extra charge, by the end of the year.
The next step will be the introduction of a HD package, preparations for which are already under way, and a HD receiver.
Volia also plans to deliver HD channels to CI-enabled TVs, with CI modules costing UAH399 (€38.9), and has already tested sets from Bravia (Sony), Samsung, LG and Philips with in-built tuners.
The operator currently has around 1.7 million subscribers in Ukraine, some 400,000 of who receive its broadband internet access service.
