The German cable operator Kabel BW has said that 26% of its 2.3 million TV customers now take telephony and/or broadband access services, a record among German cable companies.
During the first half year, turnover (including other income) based on the unaudited half-yearly accounts increased by about 14% to €269 million (€236 million during the same period in 2009), EBITDA improved by 22% to €149 million (2009: €122 million) and earnings before tax (EBT) reached €39 million (2009: €11 million). Investments in the first half of 2010 remained with €64 million at a high level (2009: €63 million).
The operator said its high growth rate was mainly due to a strong rise in the number of broadband Internet and telephony customers, up from 444,000 in the first half of 2009 to 590,000, an increase of about 33%.
Since last May, some 7.7 million homes in the state of Baden-Wuerttemberg have potential access to Kabel BW’s high-speed network. “This powerful network is the foundation for our future growth. With our new, additional HD offerings, the partnership with Sky, our mobile communications products, and our planned launch of video on demand, we increased significantly our growth potential,” said Harald Rösch, CEO of Kabel BW, in a statement.
