Belgium continues to be a hotspot for genuine IPTV as demonstrated by the telco Belgacom, which added 54,000 additional TV subscribers in the second quarter, traditionally one of the poorest for subscriber growth.
It takes the installed base at the end of June to 868,000, a year-on-year increase of 47%. Some 44% of Belgacom’s customers take two or more services and the company says that an increasing number take four services; 115,000 customers receive a second stream. TV revenues represented €86 million; ARPU fell to €19.1, the seasonal fall being attributable to the end of the football season.
Belgacom’s success is the more remarkable for being in a country with cable penetration in the mid 90s.
In the first half of the year revenues from IPTV grew by 46% to €86 million.
