Czech IPTV growth stalls

July 29, 2010 06.45 Europe/London By Chris Dziadul

The leading Czech IPTV service O2 TV had 133,000 subscribers at the end of June, or only 0.4% more than a year earlier.

Its operator, the incumbent telco Telefónica O2, also had 702,000 ADSL accesses, up 10.8% year-on-year.

Telefónica O2 Czech Republic’s consolidated business revenues in H1 were 6.6% down year-on-year at CZK12,273 million (€492.7 million), while OIBDA was 18.1% down year-on-year at CZK11,209 million. Consolidated net income fell by 23.9% to CZK4,354 million.

O2 TV is one of the longer established IPTV services in the CEE region. Launched in September 2006, it currently offers its subscribers over 70 channels, VOD and a recording facility.
