Slovakian set-top developer Antik Technology says it plans to integrate Google TV into its Juice receivers.
The company says that Google’s Android-based system is designed to work with any TV operator, enabling owners of its Juice set-top boxes to move seamlessly between Web and TV content. “We want to bring the Android platform into our set-top boxes soon, and Google TV should follow after that, which will give users almost-endless possibilities of rich entertainment experiences,“ said Igor Kolla, CEO, Antik Technology.
The Android-powered Juice devices will run the Chrome web browser, opening up additional entertainment possibilities. Support for existing Android applications will be built in and it is anticipated that custom TV apps will follow. Users will also be able to control their TV through an Android-enabled smartphone.
Antik Technology plans to finish the integration of Google TV by the end of the year in anticipation for a European launch for Google in 2011.
Broadband TV News is unaware of any Google TV announcements that relate specifically to a European launch date.
