Dutch telco KPN says both its subscriber base and marketshare is continuing to grow rapidly following a shift in emphasis from its terrestrial Digitenne service towards IPTV. It follows a network upgrade to VDSL and a national marketing campaign for its ‘Interactive TV’ service.
In the quarter to June 30, 2010, the number of TV subscribers (DTT and IPTV) increased to 1,088,000 from 1,033,000 in the previous quarter. Blended TV ARPU remained steady at €9.
KPN is targeting 1.5 million TV customers by 2012, it already has a market share of 14%, and has been slowly picking off cable customers on the lower tiers. In the medium term the company is looking to improve its VDSL deployment and is looking towards a fibre-to-the-home penetration of 60% in areas where the technology has been rolled out.
42,000 homes currently receive a fibre-based service from KPN, 26,000 as fibre-to the home and the remainder to the curb.
