The Onexim Group, which is headed by Mikhail Prokhorov, has acquired a 51.1% stake in the Russian media company RBC.
According to Kommersant and Lenta, the deal, which was first announced a year ago and has received the approval of the Federal Antimonopoly Service, is worth $80 million (€67 million).
Although the remaining 48.9% of RBC will be held by the owners of OAC RBC Information Systems, the latter include another company – Polyus Zloto – owned by Prokhorov, that itself owns 11.5% of OAC RBC Information Systems.
RBC, whose interests include the business news channel RBC-TV, has been in financial difficulties since 2008.
