Sweden’s TV4 has launched a package of four of its channels that will be available to subscribers to the Telia, 3 and Tele2 mobile networks.Rather than offer made for mobile versions, which have not always proved popular viewers or operators, direct simulcasts will be available of TV4, TV4 Plus, TV400 and TV4 Fakta. It means subscribers will be able to view TV4’s coverage of the football World Cup.
“What has so far been offered on the mobile TV market has been a limited range of television rights, many of which were excluded. Now, TV4 is a pioneer in this area – by offering four of our major TV channels in their entirety directly on mobile phones, simultaneously traditional television,” says Otto Sjöberg, CEO of TV4 Mobilab Expressen.
The three operators represent some 80% of mobile subscribers, providing their phone is 3G enabled, and they have purchased the appropriate package from their operator.
The service will begin in time for the World Cup that starts on June 11 and for the wedding of Crown Princess Victoria.
