UPC Business, the B2B unit of UPC Broadband, has announced the launch of a new 10 Gigabit Ethernet (10 GigE) service to help mobile operators and service providers meet the fast growing market demand for high-speed bandwidth. The service is available in nine countries, reaching over 40 cities and more than 80 telehouses.
As part of UPC Business’ broadening Ethernet services portfolio, 10 GigE leverages UPC Business’ network to satisfy large-scale, wholesale needs for high-speed Ethernet technology across Europe, stretching from Ireland to Romania. The service connects all key business centres over wholly-owned fibre systems. The market for high-speed bandwidth is fast growing due to new internet applications and mobile data usage. This is expected to reach $40 billion worldwide by 2014, growing at approximately 17% per year (CARG), according to market research company Ovum.
“Our 10 GigE service is a cost-effective alternative for customers who need large bandwidths for the last mile as well as for in-country backbones. Our offer in 40 major European cities and in more than 80 European telehouses, is unmatched in the industry”, said David Jan Aris, director wholesale services for UPC Business, in a statement. “This service gives carriers the real possibility to connect their global customers with remote sites where-ever that customer is located within the nine countries in western and eastern Europe. And as UPC fiber has a strong network in dense city areas, we are ideally positioned to support mobile operators in upgrading their networks up to the antenna sites to anticipate the exploding data-needs of mobile users.”
The UPC Business 10 GigE Carrier Ethernet Service is available in Ireland, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Austria, Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary and Romania. With UPC’s recent acquisition of Unitymedia, this service can be expanded to Germany.
