The finale of Lost has shattered all previous download records on BitTorrent. In less than a day, according to TorrentFreak. Close to a million people have downloaded the last two episodes, with more than 100,000 people sharing a single torrent at the same time. As expected, most downloads come from outside the US where the finale aired later or has yet to air on television.
The producers of the show attempted to curb interest in such downloads overseas, where US TV shows typically air months later, by broadcasting the finale in 59 countries simultaneously. However, TorrentFreak noted, 15% of all requests for the finale download are coming from Australia, where the finale is not set to air until tomorrow.
In the US, some 13.5 million people watched the final, two and a half hour long episode on the ABC network.
